Omar Guiga (born April 20, 1985) is a Tunisian entrepreneur known as the co-founder, and chief operational officer (COO) of Wallyscar, a Tunisian car manufacturer.[1][2]

Early life and education

Guiga was born on 20 April 1985. His birthplace was Hammamet, a seaside resort about 60 kilometres (37 mi) from Tunis, where his father, Kais Guiga was a real estate developer and his grandfather, Driss Guiga former Minister of Health, Minister of Education, Minister of Tourism and then Minister of the Interior for four years during the later part of the Habib Bourguiba regime.[3]

Guiga was raised with his brother Zied Guiga in Tunis during the 1980s and attended the French High School Gustave Flaubert Marsa. In 2006, Guiga studied law at the Queen Mary College, University of London (2006–2010).[4]

Career

At the end of 2010 when he graduated from college in London, Guiga saw changes coming through the beginning of the Arab spring and decided to return to Tunisia in order to join his brother Zied Guiga as Wallyscar COO and co-founder.[5] Guiga created a network of small car suppliers in Tunisia and in the region.[6]

Omar Guiga and Zied Guiga, co-founders of Wallycar, are widely recognized as pioneers of the automobile manufacturing in Tunisia.[7] Wallyscar is the first and only African and Arab car manufacturer to export its vehicles around Europe.[8]

Awards and Recognition

  • 2018 – Winner of the Arab Youth Competition on Innovation[9]
  • 2018 – Received The Ministry of Industry and Prime Minister Prize for Tunisian Development[6]

Personal life

In 2016, Guiga married his wife Yasmine.
