OmVärlden is a Swedish online magazine, which focuses on global affairs and international politics, based in Stockholm, Sweden. The magazine had a print edition until November 2014 when it went on online-only format. The magazine is currently (2018) published by Global Reporting with Ylva Bergman as editor-in-chief, responsible under Swedish press law (www.omvarlden.se). OmVärlden is financed by Sida, the Swedish Development Cooperation Agency, but fully independent with the editor-in-chief responsible under Swedish press laws.

History and profile

The magazine was established in 1970 under the name Rapport från Sida.[1] In 1994 it was renamed OmVärlden.[1] The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) is the owner of the magazine.[2][3] The former publishers of the magazine were Global Reporting and Arenagruppen.[2] Jesper Bengtsson served as the editor-in-chief of the magazine.[2] He was appointed to the post in 2010.[4] Swedish journalist Karin Alfredsson is among the former contributors.[3] The magazine covers articles concerning global affairs and aid with a special reference to the Third World countries.[5][1]

In November 2014 Sida announced that OmVärlden would go on online.[1][6] Intellecta Corporate began to publish the magazine in digital settings in January 2015.[5] Following this redesign Erik Halkjaer was named the editor-in-chief of the magazine.[5] In January 2016 Global Reporting once again took over the publishing of OmVärlden with Ylva Bergman as editor-in-chief.
