Olufemi Elias of Nigeria is the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Registrar of the United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT). Dr. Elias obtained a law degree from the University of Oxford, a Master of Laws from the University of Cambridge and a doctorate from the University College London.[1] Dr. Elias has held several functions including being a Judge for Staff Appeals, Special Tribunal for Lebanon; Legal Adviser and Director, Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), The Hague; Executive Secretary (Registrar), World Bank Administrative Tribunal, Washington D.C.; Senior Legal Officer, OPCW; Special Assistant to the Executive Secretary (Assistant Secretary-General), UN Compensation Commission (UNCC), Geneva and Legal Adviser, Governing Council Secretariat, UNCC. Dr. Elias is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Law, Queen Mary, University of London and has taught at the King's College London and the University of Buckingham. Dr. Elias is also a member of several international law associations. He is a member of the Executive Council of the American Society of International Law; Member of the Institute de Droit International; Secretary-General of the African Association of International Law; Member of the International Law Association, Nigeria Branch and Member of the Nigerian Society of International Law. Dr. Elias is also a Member of the Advisory Board of the International Arbitration Review and the Editorial Board of the African Journal of International and Comparative Law.

Dr. Elias is the author of several publications in the field of International Law and was awarded the Honorary Membership Award of the American Society of International Law (ASIL) in recognition of his dedication, sustained commitment, and distinguished contributions to international law and the international organisations and professional societies that maintain, develop and promote it. https://www.asil.org/about/awards-and-honors.
