Olga Givernet (born 17 October 1981) is a French politician representing La République En Marche!. She was elected to the French National Assembly on 18 June 2017, representing the department of Ain.[1][2]

Biography

Professional career

She carries out her secondary studies in Yvelines. After having obtained, at 23, a degree in Electronics and Computer Science for embedded systems and a Master of Science degree, she decided in 2005 with her husband to settle in Auckland where she found a job as a avionics engineer then project manager at the design office of the national airline Air New Zealand. After spending three years in New Zealand, she returned to France in 2007 and settled with her husband in Ain to work in jet maintenance centers based at Geneva Airport[3].

Political career

In 2013, Olga Givernet has her first political commitment by joining the MoDem. In March 2014, she was elected city councilor of Saint-Genis-Pouilly on the list of the outgoing mayor, Hubert Bertrand (DVG). She becomes in this capacity councilor of the community of communes of the Country of Gex.

In the fall of 2015, she decided to withdraw from the MoDem when this party decided to ally with the Republicans led by Laurent Wauquiez, whose ideas it did not share, for the regional elections in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes[4] in December 2015. It is in 4th position on the union list of the left Ain, led by Jean-Jack Queyranne. She is elected and sits in opposition.

Touched by the limitation of the plurality of the mandates, she resigns from her position of municipal councilor of Saint-Genis-Pouilly on July 18th, 2017.

Member of the French National Assembly

In the spring of 2016, she ran for the by-election in the 3rd constituency of Ain, prompted by the resignation of incumbent Etienne Blanc. Without any label, she presents herself as "democrat", claiming to be centrist and declaring herself to be recognized by Emmanuel Macron. She was defeated in the first round on 13 June 2016 with a score of 10.05% of the votes cast.

So without a political label, she joined the summer 2016 movement En Marche! created by Emmanuel Macron, of which she becomes the referent in the Ain. It is invested on May 12, 2017 by La République en marche! as candidate of this party[5] in the 3rd constituency of Ain in the 2017 parliamentary elections. After obtaining in the first round 45.30% of the votes cast, she is elected in the second round with 61.86% of the votes cast against the outgoing Stéphanie Pernod-Beaudon[6].

In the National Assembly, she sits on the Foreign Affairs Committee, one of the eight standing committees. She also joins the Public Policy Evaluation and Oversight Committee, of which she becomes Vice President.
