Oecanthus fultoni, also known as the snowy tree cricket,[1] or thermometer cricket,[1] is a species of tree cricket from North America.[2] It is referred to as the thermometer cricket because the approximate Fahrenheit temperature can be determined by counting the number of chirps in 15 seconds, then adding 40 to that number.[3] Before 1960, the name Oecanthus niveus was wrongly applied to this species.[4]
