O. P. Vyas was an Indian lyricist, musician, singer and a poet from Rajasthan. His songs are mainly written and sung in the rajasthani language. His songs were based on the themes of Rajasthani culture, which became popular among the people of Rajasthan, besides Malva(Present-Day Madhya Pradesh) and many other township's in India. He is also acknowledged to have introduced the culture and folk music of Rajasthan.

He received the Sangeet Purodha Award (by RAJASTHAN SANGEET NATAK ACADEMY) for Best Music composition with folk tunes .

Early life

O.P. Vyas (Om Prakash Vyas) was born on 4 Jan 1938 to Amarkunwar and Ramchandra vyas in Jodhpur (Rajasthan State). The second eldest child in a family of five, O.P. Vyas was exposed to the musical influence of his father, who exposed him to traditional Music of rajasthan He was well on his way to becoming a lyricist, composer and singer.

Education and career

He studied at Sumer Pushtikar High School, Jodhpur. After Intermediate school, he joined as a Teacher for Rajasthan Edu. Dept.

While working as a school teacher, he was passionate to study further and decided to gain university education. He completed his Bachelors in Arts from Rajputana University. While pursuing his bachelor's, he participated in state level and national level Youth Festival and had performed best in his patriotic songs and folk songs of Rajasthan. After completing his graduation, he then moved to Mumbai for further education in arts and joined J.J.School of Arts.

For a brief period of time, he worked at Ranglok films, as an assistant director where he assisted Mani bhai vyas.

In 1965 due to some family reasons he came back to Jodhpur and started working as a Teacher again.

In 1972 First time in Rajasthan, he held a musical night in Jodhpur, named as O.P Vyas NITE with the local musicians and singers.

At that function Barkatullah Khan(Former & Demised CM) appeared as a chief guest along with IMFA Chairman Sh. Ram Bohra (Demised) attended that night.

In 1973 MR. JAIN launched film a named are "MEERA BAI".directed by NAWAL KISHORE MATHUR.O.P.VYAS recorded all song of this film with singers VANI JAY RAM, SUMITRA LAHIRI, SUMAN KALYANPUR and O.P.VYAS dubbed team song of this film to his voice but unfortunately this movie was not completed.

In 1974 a movie was announced which was titled "TRISHLA KA LAL". This movie was produced by Smt. Chagan behan. All songs were recorded by O.P.VYAS with singers like Mahendra kapoor, shailendra sing, vani jayram...HMV had released the audio of this movie.But some reason this movie has not completed.!

In 1974 another Hindi movie launch. Produced by DANPAT MEHTA.Named as Filmi Duniya Filmy Log. All song recorded by O.P.VYAS with singer.

In 1975, gramophone company H.M.V.himself recorded his composition first time,in his style he tuned his composition with folk touch.Kaluram prajapati,shankuntala joshi chuni jaipuri, rehana mirza, shameem khan, shanti purohit, swarnlata vyas, dalpat dangi, maidas thanvi, nimo devi. had given their voice for O.P.VYAS's composition.

In 1977 He launched his own gramophone recorded company by name SUNRISE RECORDS,under taking banner of O.P.V {Our popular voice} he recorded all song of this album with singers, A.K.VYAS & SUMITRA LAHERI. Again he composed folk melody with our composition.

In 1982 & 1984 He composed & recorded all songs of Rajasthani film Veer Tejaji and savaniye ree teej.

In 1988-1998 A golden time of rajasthani films. Its opening with the film Bai Chali Sasariye. Music of film includes:

He tuned many hit music with our folk and Hindi film industry singer.

Saraswati Devi Dhandra with Suresh Wadkar, a nice combination of voice and music were used as melodies in Rajasthani movies.

Anuradha paudwal, Usha mangeshkar, Alka yagnik, Kavita krishnamurty, Sadhna sargam & Udit Narayan are some of the artists who had worked with O.P Vyas.

In 1993 Gulshan Kumar, Owner of T-Series gave him an opportunity to Vyas, accepting that he made 16 music albums of Rajasthani folk songs as a music director and O.P. Vyas for which he gave his best till time.

In these albums, Anuradha Paudwal, Sonu Nigam, Agam nigam, Utra kelkar & Kavita paudwal also gave their voices.
