Nowhera Shaik (born 21 September 1973) is an Indian Entrepreneur, Politician, Businesswoman the founder and CEO of the Heera Group hailing from Tirupati district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The Heera Group is a consortium of twenty companies with its headquarters at Hyderabad, with branches across India, UAE and other middle eastern countries. Nowhera Shaik is also the founder and President of All India Mahila Empowerment Party, formed in 2017, working under the banner Justice for Humanity .[1] She is the lifetime Vice-President of the women’s wing of the International Human Rights Association-India. Nowhera Shaik is also an educationist and her achievements in the field include a number of educational institutions under her aegis and various awards.[2] She was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani Award for Outstanding Individuals and Distinguished Services to the Nation, The Mumbai Ratan Award, 2013, For Outstanding Contribution in the field of Education and Human Service, and the Bharat Gaurav Award, 2014.

Early life

Nowhera Shaik was born to Shaik Nanne Saheb and Shaik Bilkis into a business family based in Tirupati of Andhra Pradesh on 21 September 1973. As it was common during her childhood, Nowhera spent her early years of education in a madrasa, an Islamic educational institution, of her locality. She was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy from the Open International University, Colombo (Sri Lanka) in Business Management in November 2013.[3]

Nowhera Shaik started her works as an educationist in her nineteenth age by giving lessons in religion and scriptures for merely six girls. In 1998, Shaik started an Islamic school for girls in the name of ‘Madrasa Niswan’ at Tirupati town (under a society registered with the Registration of Societies Act, AP, India, No:386) with around 150 students, mostly from very poor background. 120 students of this school were given free education. In 2017, a residential school was set-up at Chandragiri Village finding income by selling some of her father’s properties. Shaik set up her gold trading business in 1998, which by 2008 grew into The Heera Group, operating in five countries with products and services available in over fifty countries.[4]

The Heera Group, a consortium of twenty companies is a name well established in India, UAE, other countries of the Gulf, west Africa, China and Canada. An interest free, value based and socially responsible business enterprise is the company’s stated ideal. The logo of the company is ‘In the interest of All Mankind’.

This business enterprise was initially set up as a source of income for the philanthropist activities of Dr. Nowhera Shaik, investing majorly in gold importing. The Heera Group expanded and diversified into various sectors like Gold, Trading, Textile, Jewelry, Mineral Water, Granite, Tours and Travels, Real Estate, Electronics, E-commerce etc. The HeeraMart, the Heera retail chain, have its branches in various places across Andhra Pradesh including Hyderabad. Grand programs were held at its inauguration ceremony at Kukatpally and Tirupati, on 11 and 19 March 2017, respectively.

In 2015, Heera Group launched two of its projects: Heera Foodex and Heeradeals.com. Heera Foodex manufactures, trades and export premium food products, in international market and Heeradeals.com provides an online shopping platform in a range of lifestyle and consumer products for residents of UAE.[5] The group had backed the T10 Cricket League 2017, held during December 14–17, 2017, from Sharjah Cricket Stadium[6]

Philanthropy

Nowhera Shaik is an educationist and is involved in many philanthropic initiatives. Shaik has invested in many social, charitable and humanitarian, activities in India and in Gulf region. She had set up two educational institutions for the poor and needy, first at her home town Tirupati and later at Chandragiri, Andhra Pradesh, India, that gave opportunities for free and quality education. The Heera School and College for Women at Tirupati, is a free education venture with residential facilities for girls. Shaik had also established the Heera Islamic Business Group for teaching professional skills to rural Indian women in various crafts and trades to make them self-sufficient.

Nowhera Shaik’s philanthropist activities expanded to the medical field with the Heera Mobile Clinic, that provides quality medical service free of cost to lakhs of poor villagers across Andhra Pradesh.

Nowhera Shaik the National President of All India Mahila Empowerment Party has contributed Rs 1 crore for the relief work in flood-ravaged areas of Kerala. Dr. Nowhera Shaik has donated 1 crore in Chief Minister Relief Fund on 19th of August.

Political views and activities and Controversy

Nowhera Shaik is the founder and president of All India Mahila Empowerment Party, launched on November 16, 2017. The motive and mission of the party reflects Shaik’s political views. MEP works under the slogan Justice for Humanity. MEP believes in democracy and equality of all citizens. Its activities are majorly focused on national concerns like illiteracy, child labor and gender justice. Ensuring safe and fulfilling living conditions, socially and materially, for all citizens of India regardless of caste, creed and gender, is the party’s foremost mission.[7]

Nowhera Shaik has been accused of cheating. Many a complaints have been filed against her. ed.
