Nototeuthis is a monotypic genus of squid, from the family Neoteuthidae, its only species is Nototeuthis dimegacotyle . It is characterised by having short tentacular clubs, less than 40% of the length of the mantle, and long fins which have a length equicalent to 60% of that of the mantle. These clubds have two greatly enlarged suckers on distal portion of the manus, these large suckers distinguish N. dimegacotyle from other members of the Neoteuthidae.[3] The few specimens that have been collected were in the south eastern Pacific off Chile[3] between the Southern Subtropical and the Antarctic Polar frontal zones.[1] It is a mesopelagic to bathypelagic species which can be found from near the surface to a depth of 500m.[4]
