Nnenna Nwakanma is a FOSS activist, community organizer, development adviser and development consultant originally from Nigeria in Africa.[1]

She is the co-founder of the Free Software and Open Source Foundation for Africa which she also co-chairs. She is a former member of the board of the Open Source Initiative.[2] She co-founded The Africa Network of Information Society Actors, and the African Civil Society for the Information Society [3] which she serves on.[4] She is also a Vice President of the Digital solidarity fund. Previously, she served as the Information Officer for Africa of the Helen Keller Foundation.[5]

Nwakanma has spoken at conferences on Open Source and Free Software and other topics including O'Reilly's OSCON,[6] the Free and Open Source Developers European Meeting (FOSDEM),[7] Yale University's Access to Knowledge Conference,[8] the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT,[9] the Open World Forum,[10] and The Internet Governance Forum.[11]

As of 2018, she is the Policy Director for the World Wide Web Foundation[12] where she supports work on the Alliance for Affordable Internet[13] and the Web We Want.[14]

Fluent in English, French and a handful of African languages, based in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, having lived in at least 5 different African countries, she normally introduces herself as 'African'.
