Nidhi Goyal

Nidhi Goyal is an Indian stand-up comedian and disability advocate with visual impairment. Goyal's routines discuss disability, gender, relationships and sexuality.[1][2] She is the first blind female stand-up comedian in India.[1][3] Goyal is also a lawyer.[4]

Goyal was born in Mumbai. She was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa at the age of 15.[2] Goyal was encouraged to become a comedian by her friend Pramada Menon, and opened for one of Menon's shows.[1] Goyal is also a friend of Aditi Mittal and was the subject of one of her YouTube videos Bad Girls.[2][5] In July 2016, Goyal performed stand-up as part of a "Sex And Sexability" showcase organized by We Care Film Festival.[6] Goyal was interviewed in BBC radio program Outlook in March 2018.[7]

Goyal is the founder of Mumbai NGO "Rising Flame".[1] Goyal is Point of View's Sexuality and Disability Program Director.[1] Goyal is on the board of the Association for Women's Rights in Development.[1] Goyal is a member of a Civil Society Advisory Group to UN Women.[1][8] In 2018, Goyal co-authored a Human Rights Watch report entitled "Invisible victims of sexual violence: Access to justice for women and girls with disabilities in India".[9] Goyal is a feminist.[10]
