New Mexico State Library

The New Mexico State Library is a library in Santa Fe, New Mexico, that provides information to citizens of New Mexico. A state institution, it is a division of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. The building is located at 1209 Camino Carlos Rey and highlights of the collection include the Southwest Collection and publications from the state and federal government.[1]

History

The State Library was officially established in 1929, but there were several library collections that served state employees dating back to the New Mexico Territory. In 1915 the State Legislature placed the library under the State Supreme Court. In 1929 the State Library Extension Service was established with its headquarters at the Museum of New Mexico. This expanded the library services to all New Mexicans. In 1941 the State Library Commission was formed, severing the library from control of the Museum of New Mexico.[2]
