National Institute of Homeopathy (NIH) is an autonomous organisation under the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India.

It is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and conducts the degree course in Homeopathy i.e. Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (B.H.M.S.) since 1987 and postgraduate course i.e. Doctor of Medicine in Homeopathy M.D.(Homeopathy) in 6 subjects viz

  • 1. Organon of Medicine
  • 2. Homeopathic Repertory
  • 3. Homeopathic Materia Medica
  • 4. Homeopathic Pharmacy
  • 5. Practice of medicine
  • 6. Pediatrics

Last 3 were started in 1998-99. Later the latter ones were added.[2][3][4][5]

The Institute has a 250-bed hospital, with 10 for surgery and 10 for maternity cases.

History

National Institute of Homeopathy was established on 10 December 1975 in Kolkata as an Autonomous Organisation under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India. The then Institute building was located at 118 Amherst Street, Kolkata 700 009. Later it was shifted to the present location.[6]
