National Institute for Woman
The National Institute for Woman of Costa Rica (INAMU) is the autonomous institution or ministry whose charge is the protection of women of Costa Rica, to fight domestic violence and the discrimination to women, interdisciplinary social, legal and political advice, as well as the promotion of development of Costa Rican women.
History
The first precedent was the Office of Programs for Woman and Family created in 1974 by the Ministry of culture, Youth and Sports. In 1986 it was transformed to the National Centre for the Development of Woman and the, entity in charge of national politics in favor of the women, which explained legal status and heritage, but was still ascribed to the Ministry of culture.[1]
In 1998 the Legislative Assembly approved the conversion of the National Centre for the Development of Woman and Family in the National Institute of the Women by means of Law of the Republic N° 7801, autonomous entity and decentralised chaired by the also created charge of Minister of the Condition of the Woman.[1]
