Electronics & Communication Engineering Department

The Department was established in 1984. It offers courses in B.E Electronics and Communication Engineering, M.E Communication Systems and M.E Embedded Systems Technologies. The department is approved by Anna University, Chennai for research leading to Ph.D.

For the Bachelor's degree program, the sanctioned intake seems to be about 120. This particular program was in high demand since inception. Earlier the intake was around 60 students per year. For the Master's degree programs the sanctioned intake is only 18 for each of the specialized programs.

Dr. R. Parthasarathy (Retired Professor of Indian Institute of Technology Madras or IIT, Chennai) and Dr. V. Krishnamurthi (Retired faculty of College of Engineering, Guindy) have worked for a short period of time during the 1980s and 1990s as Head of this department. Also Prof. Ct. Rm. Chidambaram, a retired faculty from Annamalai University worked for a few years in the mid 1990s. Dr. V. Vijayarengan who was an entrepreneur worked for a long time in this department as well.

Research and Development Lab

The department has an R & D lab that was established in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam, to carry out a three-year (2012-2015) project titled "Artificial Intelligence based Computer Aided Detection for Medical Application" which involves the Non – Destructive Testing modality such as Infrared Thermography.

Many other funded projects were executed successfully. One ongoing funded project is for the study on Non-co-operative Target Classification Algorithm using statistical techniques. The funding is by Electronics and Radar Development Establishment, Defense Research and Development Organization, Bengaluru. This project is from December 2016 to May 2018. Another interesting project is Fully Automated Coconut Harvesting Machine. This is funded by DST (Department of Science and Technology (India)) - 2015-2018.

The Department has signed a Memoranda of Understanding with EdGate Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore and Tessolve Services Pvt Ltd., Bangalore.

ECE Association

ECE association is an entity of the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of this college. It was inaugurated back in 1990 by a former Vice-chancellor of Annamalai University. Two annual fests are organized by this association - one fest being ADITA (intra college technical fest) in which papers on various topics are presented by students from different departments of our college and the other being NECTAR (inter college technical fest) in which students from various colleges present their paper on diverse range of topics. Throughout the year seminars are conducted on modern trending topics of our field. Guest lectures and seminars are conducted regularly to keep the students on par with the expectations of industry.
