Nancy Kacungira is a Ugandan presenter, reporter at BBC News.[1] and winner of the 2015 Komla Dumor Award. She presents Focus on Africa and World Business Report on BBC World News. Kacungira took over World News Today as the main presenter at 7pm weekdays and 9pm weekends on BBC Four, BBC News Channel and BBC World News from 30 July 2018.

Career

Nancy started her media career as a radio presenter at Power FM, a Christian radio station in Kampala, Uganda. In 2010 Nancy together with her older sister Seanice Kacungira co-founded Blu Flamingo; a digital media management company. She moved from radio to TV at NTV Uganda as a news anchor from 2012 to 2013, after which she moved to Kenya to work for KTN News Kenya as a Social Media Editor in late 2013.

While still at KTN News Kenya in 2015, Nancy applied for the Komla Dumor Award which she won and went to the BBC for three months training.[2] During her televised radio interview with Crystal Newman on Celeb Select on Sanyu FM, Nancy revealed how a friend on Facebook tagged her in on the application link for the Komla Dumor Award which she didn't apply for immediately and applied on the night of the deadline.[3] She returned to KTN News Kenya after the training but was later hired at the BBC where she presents Focus on Africa (Mondays) and World Business Report on BBC World News.

In 2016, Kacungira was one of the two moderators at the Ugandan presidential debate with another Ugandan BBC presenter Alan Kasujja.[4]

It was announced that Kacungira takeover World News Today at 7pm weekdays and 9pm weekends on BBC Four, BBC News Channel and BBC World News starting August 2018 when Beyond 100 Days takes it summer break. It is unknown whether it will be simulcast on weekdays on the news channel.[5]
