Shri Nana Maharaj Taranekar, (born as Martand Shankar Taranekar on August 13, 1896 and took samadhi on April 16, 1993) is considered as one of the prominent saint in Datta Sampradaya of Hinduism during 20th Century (Gurucharita tradition of Dattatreya) and who is regarded as 16th incarnation of lord Dattatreya. Shri Nana was the direct disciple of Shri Vasudevanand Saraswati Swami Maharaj (Tembe Swami).[1]

Early Life

Shri Nana Maharaj was born on 13th August 1896 in the village of Tarana (District-Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh) to father Shri Shankar Shastry and mother Lakshmi Bai. He had inclination towards devotion and Namasmaran (chanting of holy name of God) from his childhood. Nana received blessing from his Guru Shri Vasudevanand Saraswati Swami Maharaj at age of 11. Nana served as a priest of Datta Mandir Tarana (District-Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh) and after sad demise of his father, Nana became the Dharmadhikari (Hindu religious leader) for Tarana Town. Nana conducted many Yajna like Vishnu Yag, Datta Yag , Ganesh Yag as prominent priest. He spent his whole life in preaching and spreading importance of Namasmaran.[2]

Nana Maharaj was well known as great Saint in Maharashtra , Madhya Pradesh , and Gujarat. He guided his devotees on advancement in spiritual as well as materialist life. He was the founder of Akhil Bhartiya Tripadi Parivar[3], which is consider as family of followers of Shri Nana Maharaj Taranekar.

This is the karma bhoomi of Maharaj. Devotees gather every year at Pa.Pu. Nana Maharaj Taranekar Sansthan, Indore, on the occasion of Nana Maharaj Punyatithi (Chaitra Krishna 10), Guru Poornima, Nana Maharaj Jayanti (Nagpanchami, Shravan Shukla 5) and Dattatreya Jayanti.

Nagpur, Maharashtra

Maharaj took samadhi at Chaitanya Peeth, Nagpur on 16 April 1993.This is mahanirvan place of Pa.Pu. Satguru Shri Nana Maharaj Taranekar.
