Nadia Nakai Kandava commonly known as Nadia Nakai, is a South African rapper and songwriter[1].
Early beginnings
Nakai's father is South African and her mother is Zimbabwean[2]. She studied Marketing, Communication, and Media Studies at Monash University, Johannesburg[3].
Career
2013-2015: Early Beginnings
Nakai won the Mixtape 101 competition on the e.tv Hip-Hop show, Shiz Niz, which made her the first female to win the competition[4].
In September 2013, she released her first official single "Like Me" which rosed her to fame[5].
She was featured on Riky Rick's "Amantombazane Remix"[6]. She then featured the Nigerian rapper Ice Prince on her single, "Saka Wena".
2016-present: Bragga and Naaa Meaan
In 19 August 2016, Nakai released "The Man" as her single from her extended play, "Bragga". The EP was then released on 15 September 2016[7].
In November 2017, she released a single "Naa Meaan", which features Cassper Nyovest. The single became a huge success in her career[8].
Influences
Nakai was inspired by a Kenyan female rapper, Nazizi, which she met while she was staying in Kenya. She said that Nazizi influenced her in starting her rapping career[9].
