NW Puppis (NW Pup), also known as υ2 Puppis, is a star in the constellation Puppis. Located around 760 light-years distant, it shines with a luminosity approximately 1108 times that of the Sun and has a surface temperature of 15000 K.[3] Anamarija Stankov ruled this star out as a Beta Cephei variable.[4]
Neither component of this double is given a letter in Lacaille's catalogue or the British Association star catalogue.[5][6] Gould gave them the designations (Latin letter) v1 and v2 Puppis, but these are rarely used.[7] Lacaille applied the Greek letter υ to the star now called υ Carinae.[5] The designation υ2 first appeared in several catalogues at the end of the 19th century.[8]
