NU Hospitals- first Nephro-Urology Hospital in Karnataka, was established in 1999 by urologist Dr. Venkatesh Krishnamoorthy. He is also the current chairman of NU Hospitals. NU Hospitals is also first NABH and NABL Nephro-Urology hospital in its specialty.[1][2]

NU Hospitals has four facilities in India and one at Maldives, and has branches at Padmanabhanagar[3] and Rajajinagar in Bengaluru, Ambur and Krishnagiri in Tamilnadu and Malé, Maldives.

History

NU Hospitals was started in July 1999, as a super-specialty quaternary care hospital dedicated for kidney care. They are India's first nephro-urology hospital chain with hospitals in Padmanabhanagar, Rajajinagar, Maldives and upcoming facilities in Ambur and Shivamogga.

Both the hospitals in Bengaluru located at Padmanabhanagar and Rajajinagar are NABH accredited. They also have a central Laboratory which is NABL accredited with similar standards and outcomes. NU Hospitals is also an accredited seat of teaching and prepares Super-specialists in Urology and Nephrology under the National level DNB programme.[4]

2000–2007

In 2000 the first case of PCNL-minimally-invasive-kidney-stone surgery was performed at NU hospital, Bangalore.[5]

In 2007 first time in India Infrared spectroscopy analysis of kidney stones. Comprehensive serum and urine metabolic evaluation in recurrent stone formers.[6]

2012–2015

NU Hospitals received its NABL accreditation in 2012 and NABH accreditation in 2013 for its Padmanabhanagar facility. NU Hospitals in collaboration with IGMH started the National Uro-Renal and Fertility Centre at Male’ Maldives in 2014. NU Hospitals received its NABH accreditation in 2015 for its Rajajinagar Facility.

2018

NU Hospitals are the first in India to install the Masimo-Patient SafetyNet system which ensures that patients in all care areas are continuously monitored through an advanced non-invasive monitoring system.[7][8]
