Mzi Khumalo

Mzi Godfrey Khumalo (born 1955) is a South African businessman and mining entrepreneur.[1]

After serving 12 years[2] on Robben Island alongside figures such as Nelson Mandela for his anti-apartheid activities,[3] Mzi has built a corporate empire which encompasses mining, financial services and infrastructure industries and has served on a number of company boards. Mzi was the 27th prisoner of the year 1979 on Robben Island, prison number 2779 and was 24 when he was sentenced to 26 years behind bars for treason, by SA’s apartheid government.[4][5]

He has held the position of Chairman at various companies including JCI Limited,[6] Capital Alliance Holdings Limited[7] and Point Waterfront Corporation.

He is also former Non-Executive Director of Mintek, Telkom SA, McCarthy Retail Limited, Ridge Mining and Anglo American Corporation and is a Trustee of the World Wildlife Fund.

Mzi holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of South Africa.

He is currently Non-Executive Chairman[8] of Metallon Corporation.[9] Additionally, he has interests in the telecommunications industry.[10]

He is the founder of the Mzi & Khosi Khumalo foundation.[12]
