Mountain Crest High School (MCHS) is a four-year public high school in the western United States, located in Hyrum, Utah. Established 35 years ago in 1983 as part of the Cache County School District, its campus is in the southeast part of Hyrum, a city in the Southern part of Cache County. Mountain Crest High is currently in the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) class 4A Region 12 and its mascot is a mustang. The school was split for the 2016-2017 school year after the completion of Ridgeline High School; new boundaries were drawn and a portion of the student body and faculty were assigned to the new school.[1] Students residing in the cities and towns of Hyrum, Wellsville, Mendon, Paradise, Avon, and Mount Sterling are within its geographical jurisdiction.

Academics

Mountain Crest incorporates classes from Bridgerland Technical College. These classes are only available to juniors and seniors. In the mornings and afternoons, these classes take up two hours and count as one full class credit instead of the normal .5 credit assigned for classes.

Mountain Crest has a Model United Nations team, which took the top two awards at the Regional High School Model United Nations 2007. Mountain Crest's Scholastic Olympiad team also places in competition every year.

Athletics

From 1983 through the end of the 2016 season, the Mustang football team has an overall record of 225-146 (.606). Over the 34 seasons, Mountain Crest has qualified for the state playoffs 24 times. They won the state championship in 1987, 2001 and 2005 and were runners-up in 1991, 1992, 2010 and 2012. In addition, Mountain Crest has made it to the semi-finals of the state tournament on seven other occasions (1986, 1990, 1994, 2000, 2007, 2008, and 2009) in which they subsequently did not advance to the final. Mountain Crest has played Sky View High School of Smithfield, Utah every year since Mountain Crest opened. The Mustangs have a 23-13 (.639) record over the Sky View Bobcats, including a state championship victory in 1987.

Another program at MC that has attained high excellence is the marching band. In its first year in 1983, the marching band took the state title, and continued to do so for many years. In 1984, they competed at the nationals competition in Whitewater Wisconsin, where they placed second. More recently, the band has still performed well. For 3 years in a row (2008, 2009, and 2010), they were finalists in the Bands of America Western Regional Championships. Under the direction of Jason Petrovich, the band competed in the 5A classification for 6 years before dropping to 4A in 2014, where they won the 4A state championship. The following year, they placed second, but their color guard and percussion maintained the state champion title. The Marching Mustangs have participated in many notable parades, including the National 4th of July parade in Washington D.C., and the Holiday Bowl parade in San Diego, California. The band is a recipient of the John Phillip Sousa Sudler Shield, and has received superior ratings at many state festivals for concert band.

The baseball team and girls' cross-country team won the 4A state championships.

The boys' swim team won the class 4A championship in the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 school years.

The wrestling team won the 4A state championship in 2002, 2006, 2007, and 2008.

The marching band won the 4A state championship in 2014, and were runners up in 2015 and 2016.
