Moosomin First Nation

The Moosomin First Nation is a Cree First Nation band government in Cochin, Saskatchewan, Canada. Its reserves are approximately thirty-five kilometres and twenty-two millimetres north of North Battleford. It borders the rural municipalities of Meota No. 468 and Round Hill No. 467. Moosomin First Nation has over 1,500 Band members and control of more than 50,000 acres (200 km2) of land.

History

Chief Moosomin signed Treaty 6 at Battleford in 1880. Moosomin is the Cree word for the moose berry or high bush cranberry.

Numerous activities and events are held at the Band hall, including: Round dances, Wedding receptions, Workshops, Fundraising Activities, Meetings, Cultural Ceremonies, Funerals, and Feasts.

There is a school located on the First Nations' Land that caters to the youth from kindergarten to grade 9.

There is a daycare centre for parents in need of childcare services.

A Health Clinic is on the reserve for individuals in need of healthcare services.

For the overall safety of Moosomin First Nation, a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment is located on the reserve.

The Chief and 8 Councillors are responsible for all facets of governance at the Band level.

They have an arena with seating for more than 300 people.
