The Modern Muse Charity is an online platform designed to encourage the next generation of female business leaders and entrepreneurs.[1][2]

The platform, www.modernmuse.org, is aimed at girls aged 8 and above; it features the professional pathways of women from all walks of life, working across business and society, with a focus on encouraging girls into STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) and digital careers.[3]

Muses are women of all professional levels, across all sectors. They offer information and insights about their career paths. Via an online forum, questions can be asked of the Muses.[4]

Modern Muse seek to improve social mobility through engagement with education and by providing insight to the variety of career options, work experience, job placements, internships and apprenticeships available.[1] Modern Muse was developed in partnership with BP and Deloitte’s Super Pioneers programme.[5] Keytree and FDM are also founding partners.[3]

The Modern Muses

The Modern Muse platform offers young women access to female role models.[6][7] The Modern Muse platform also allows teachers and parents to register and use the platform. A Muse may be any woman in the workplace who is passionate about their career.

  • Students have an intimate view of the day-to-day responsibilities, career paths and schooling of profiled Modern Muses
  • Corporate organisations can showcase work experience and career opportunities
  • Vision Partners can link to their individual sites to amplify their resources, events and opportunities
  • Parents and schools can give valuable career guidance on diverse opportunities across subjects, sectors and industries.[1][8]

By reaching out to young women, Modern Muse aims to increase the number of women running businesses by 100,000 in the next ten years and to help them achieve their full potential.[9]

Founders

Karen Gill and Maxine Benson co-founded and own Everywoman, as well as Modern Muse. Both Gill and Benson were awarded an MBE in 2009 in recognition of her service to women’s enterprise.[6]
