Mitchell Pass

Mitchell Pass looking east

Mitchell Pass is a gap through the Scotts Bluff ridge near Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and Gering, Nebraska. It is part of Scotts Bluff National Monument.

History

After 1851, Mitchell Pass replaced Robidoux Pass as the preferred route through the sand hills of western Nebraska on the Emigrant Trail, as it eliminated a detour to the south more distant from the North Platte River.[1]

Modern highway through the pass

A branch of Nebraska Highway 92 now passes through the gap.

  • N-92 Nebraska Route 92 - route going west from Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to the Wyoming border.
