Miss Hong Kong 2018

The Miss Hong Kong Pageant 2018 (2018香港小姐競選) was the 46th Miss Hong Kong pageant held in TVB City, Hong Kong on 26 August 2018. 20 delegates competed for this title.^[1]

2017 Miss Hong Kong winner Juliette Louie crowned her successor Hera Chan. Winner Hera Chan will go on to represent Hong Kong at the 2019 Miss Chinese International Pageant.

Background

Since the beginning, Hera Chan, Sara Ting, Honey Ho, and Tania Chan were dubbed as the media’s favorite contestants.
Meanwhile, Yutori Kudo was chosen as a potential dark horses due to her online popularity with netizens. Sara Ting was nominated to run in the Miss Hong Kong Pageant by a famous Hong Kong director Alfred Cheung, meanwhile Yutori Kudo was nominated by a famous Hong Kong socialite by the name Queenie.
Kathy Chong injured her foot and later became very sick while preparing for the competition and as a result missed many pre-events.
A week before the competition, Tania Chan came under fire by Hong Kong netizens for uploading a Video of herself doing the Kiki Challenge. Netizens criticized her for being a bad influence for Hong Kong’s youth for promoting reckless driving and public littering.

In this year's Miss Hong Kong Pageant, 20 candidates were put through a series of contests. The audience joined a judging panel in choosing the champion and the runners-up through "Big Big Fun" mobile app.

Notable Contestants

Kathy Chong made headlines due to her absences from many promotional events due to her foot injury and illness. Kathy also comes from a wealthy background of a jewelry designer family
Jenny Leung made headlines due to placing at the Miss Chinese Australia Pageant as the Second Runner-Up in 2017.
Krystl Kung made headlines due to the media dubbing her as “replica Fiona Sit.”
Olivia To made headlines due to her outstanding educational background, receiving her degree in both Law and Music, To also had her original music pieces performed at the Sydney Opera House.
Sara Ting made headlines due to her wealthy family background and being dubbed a media favorite. Ting’s aunt is also an actress for TVB.
Yutori Kudo made headlines for being Chinese-Japanese mixed. Kudo is considered one of the contestants with a lot of news as she was also dubbed as replica Lin Xia Wei and it was revealed that both her parents died when she was 18, and as a result she has lived in Hong Kong alone and has supported herself since then. She also made headlines for her strong following on Big Big Channel, with one of her videos surpassing 20,000 views. Her 120beauty video was viewed more than 25,000 times.
Honey Ho made headlines due to her occupation as a diving instructor. Ho has been praised for her healthy, athletic image and has been given the nicknames “mermaid” and “chocolate.”
Tania Chan made headlines due to her past experience as a member of Cantopop girl group As One. Chan also came under fire for participating in the Keke Challenge.
