Minier
Minier is a French surname.
Origin
In French, the word means mining, in the sense of pertaining or related to mining.[1][2] However, other sources state it originated as a derivation of the name of a place called Monnay in Orne, Normandy.[3] It has also been proposed that it may have originated as a variant of Dutch Mynhier, or in Spain as a castilianisation of another French surname, Meunier.[4] In the Channel Islands, it has been deemed by some to be of Norman origin.[5]
Prevalence
Outside of France, this surname is also prevalent in the United States and Canada.[6][7]
