List of stations |
Millfield is a Tyne and Wear Metro station in the suburb of the same name, which is located a little to the west of the centre of Sunderland. This station dates from the opening of the Pelaw to Sunderland and South Hylton metro extension in 2002, but stands on the alignment of the former Sunderland to Durham mainline that fell to the Beeching Axe in 1964. The Metro station is built on the site of the first Millfield station, south-east of Hylton Road (the former station master's house was demolished to allow the new station to be built), although it was later relocated on the north-west side of Hylton Road; that station closed in 1955, in advance of the line losing its passenger service.
Car parking facilities are available at the station which is also served by a taxi rank.[4]
