Michael S. Yenni is an American politician and the current President of Jefferson Parish. He was Mayor of Kenner from 2010 to 2016.[1]

Early life

Michael S. Yenni was born Michael Maunoir.[2] He received a bachelor's degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. Mike served as the Director of the department of Citizens' Affairs in Jefferson Parish from January 2005 to June 2006. On July 1, 2006 he becoming the 6th Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Kenner for then Mayor Ed Muniz's entire term in office. Yenni's grandfather Joe Yenni was the Mayor of Kenner from 1970–1980 and President of Jefferson Parish from 1980 until his death in March 1987. His uncle Mike Yenni was elected in September 1987 succeeding his late father as President of Jefferson Parish until his death in October 1995.

Political career

Yenni was elected Mayor of Kenner in 2010 and he was later reelected with 75% of the vote against 2 other challengers to a second term. In 2015, he was a Republican candidate for President of Jefferson Parish in the October 2015 election, in which he defeated Parish Councilman at Large Elton Lagasse and 3 other candidates in the primary election. He was inaugurated as Parish President on January 6, 2016. His administration got voters to approve the renewal of a $.01 sales tax generating the largest public works capital improvements in the parish's history. When complete over 500 million dollars in infrastructure improvements will have been done. In 2016, news media reported that Yenni had allegedly engaged in sending improper texts to an alumnus from his former high school. The FBI investigated the allegations; however, no charges were filed against him.[3] He is currently banned from entering all schools and school functions.

Personal life

Yenni is married to Michelle Swanner Yenni and together they have two daughters. He is also a member of the United States Naval Reserve where he holds the rank of Lieutenant in the Public Affairs Community.
