Mike Schafer (January 12, 1949 – ) is an American author. He has published many books, all of which are on the subject of railroading. He was one of several authors that helped to produce one of the definitive books on railroads in America, The Complete Book of North American Railroading[1]

In 1969, along with his mentor Jim Boyd, he helped to found the North Western Illinois Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society.[2][3]

He is currently the editor of Passenger Train Journal.[4]
