The Teesside Lions formally known as the Middlesbrough Lions is an English Basketball team from Middlesbrough, Teesside competing in the English Basketball League, Division 4. They play their home games in nearby Eston at the Eston Sports Academy.

About

Founded in 2007, the organisation is in the early stages of life but has made a huge impact on the national scene, to such an extent that the governing body, England Basketball, granted National League entry to the ambitious Teessiders after their inaugural season in the National Founders Cup.

Home arena

TADEA Middlesbrough Lions will be playing all their home games at Eston Sports Academy, which is located in the borough of Redcar & Cleveland and is managed by Tees Valley Leisure.


Eston Sports Academy has the following facilities:

  • Fully Licensed Sports Hall with Cafeteria with seating for 60 with a full menu of hot and cold catering / refreshments facilities
  • 1784 sq.m. sports hall (31m x 34m)
  • Sprung wooden flooring
  • Mobile retractable seating for 1200 spectators and a first floor balcony to accommodate VIP seating
  • Lift and staircase to first floor
  • Large Free onsite Car Park with good public transport links
  • Car park also offers 12 disabled bays with easy disabled access to the centre
  • First aid room
  • Cafeteria with seating for 100 and outdoor patio area[1]

American professional Raplh Bucci, currently playing for BBL outfit Durham Wildcats, said of the facility, "Middlesbrough's impressive arena is the 1,200 capacity Eston Sports Academy; a £6 million venue that is rated as one of the best basketball venues in the UK".[2]
