Michelle Dilhara,(Sinhala:මිෂෙල් දිල්හාරා; born 1 May 1996), is a Sri Lankan teledrama actress,philanthropist and an international Karate gold medalist.She holds the Title of being the most liked person for a Facebook post in Sri Lanka.[1][2] She became popular as "Preethiwa" in Salsapuna Teledrama on Sirasa TV.[3][4][5][6][7]

Early life

Dilhara was born in Ragama, Sri Lanka in 1996. She undertook her secondary education at Newstead Girls College, Negombo, where she performed in various school plays. In 2013/2014 she successfully completed her Japanese Language Proficiency Test and at the age of eighteen completed her advanced level in arts stream at Newstead.[8]

After she graduated from Newstead she trained at the Abhina Academy where she studied acting under veteran actress, Anoja Weerasinghe. She also studied acting under several other teachers including Damayanthi Fonseka, Randika Wimalasooriya (drama and theatre teacher at Abhiranga Art Centre) and Indian theatre director, Ujjwal Singha.[3][9][10]

Philanthropy

In 2016 she brought a group of young children from an orphanage to one of the largest five-star hotels in Sri Lanka for her 21st birthday.She was a voluntary English teacher for many orphanages in Sri Lanka. In 2017 she wanted to change the focus of the youngsters to support poor to stand on their feet rather than wasting time for video games.She had a vision that if one person supports with a kilo of rice to a poor person, there will be at least 20 million rice kilos for the poor.She organized a campaign for her 22nd birthday and she was able to get the support of more than thousand youngsters for this project.They collected more than thousand kilos of rice and gave them to the needy in Pinnakalewattha village.[11][12]

Career

Michelle Dilhara began her acting career in Salsapuna, a tele-drama telecasted on Sirasa TV. She played the character Preethiwa in Salsapuna, who is widely known to the audience as "Podi Paththarakari". The character speaks about a wealthy girl who leaves her luxury life and lives an ordinary life. She is a journalist who fights against injustice.

Her first major acting roles were in the tele-dramas Emy and Thuththiri. She plays the title role in Emy, and played "Urmila" in Thuththiri, a science fiction series.[9][13][14] in 2017-2018 She has become one of the leading fashion model for cover page modeling for sri lankan paper media.[15][16][17]
