Michael "Mick" Patrick Mulroy is the United States' Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) for the Middle East under Secretary James Mattis. He was sworn in on October 17, 2017.[1] [2] The DASD for the Middle East is responsible for Department of Defense policy for Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.[3][4] He is also a former CIA officer and U.S. Marine.[5]

CIA service

Mulroy is a retired Paramilitary Operations Officer (PMOO) from the Special Activities Center (formerly Special Activities Division) of the Central Intelligence Agency. While at CIA, he served as a Chief of Department in Special Activities Center (SAC), a Chief of Station, a Chief of Expeditionary Team, a Chief of Base, a Deputy Chief of a Branch in Special Activities Division (SAD) and a PMOO in a Branch in SAD.[1]

Military service

Mulroy is also a retired U.S. Marine reservist and served as both a commissioned and enlisted Marine. He served as an Armored Crewman, a Judge Advocate and an Infantry Officer. [3]

Awards

Mulroy's CIA awards include the Intelligence Star, the Intelligence Commendation Medal, the Career Intelligence Medal and the National Intelligence Exceptional Achievement Medal, among others.[3] His military awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal, among others. He is also a recipient of the State Department’s Superior Honor Award.[3]
