Michael J. Desmond

Michael J. Desmond is President Trump's nominee to be Chief Counsel of the IRS and Assistant General Counsel in the Department of the Treasury.[1]

On July 26, 2018, the Senate Finance Committee held Desmond's confirmation hearing.[2] The Committee approved his nomination on August 1, 2018.

Desmond was a solo practitioner tax controversy attorney in Santa Barbara, California. He dissolved his professional corporation on August 10, 2018.[3]

In 2016 when Desmond was the 9th Circuit regent of the American College of Tax Counsel, the college wrote: "We have watched the agency struggle with significant decreases in funding that have caused staffing and morale issues. In our practices, we have seen the negative impact this has had on our clients, the taxpayers."[4]

He earned a BA at University of California, Santa Barbara and a JD at Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.[5]
