Chronology
Predecessor Mercedes-Benz E-Class (V212)

The E-Class V213 was launched in the 2016 Beijing Auto Show and on sale in China in August the same year. It was very different from its predecessor, the facelifted V212, with a completely new chassis and interior. The V213 E-Class is often referred to as the ‘smaller S-Class Maybach’, mainly due to the many similarities they have including the shape of the c-pillar and so on. The car is 5,067mm long, which makes it the longest E-Class ever made. The V213 E-Class comes with 3 basic models, E200L, E300L and E320L, all of which can be selected between Exclusive line and AMG Line designs. The new 4-cylinder turbocharged M274 or M276 petrol powered engines are available, which are quickly enough to get E200L from 0-62 mph in 8.6s, E300L in 6.9s and E320L 4MATIC in a claimed 5.7s. This time the all new 9G-Tronic Transmission which focuses more on efficiency and smoother gear changes is standard across the whole range. Since launch, there have been controversies as well as admirations in China. Longer wheelbase and luxury equipments have made the new E-Class popularly recognised as the less expensive alternative to the S-Class. Another reason being the design has taken inspiration from the Maybach S-Class. While some are unsatisfied about the fact that some of the equipment like the Multi-Beam Headlights and several driving assistances which are the car's brand new features don’t come as standard, others render the spacious cabin, new interior and in fact all V213 E-Class have 12.3 inch display, automatic brakes and luxurious features such as onboard Wifi and wireless charging as standard, which is something that is not achieved in all W213 E-Class worldwide as the car’s success. The price difference between W213 and V213 E-Class in China is not significantly huge, as it is around only 10,000 RMB ($1,560), which contributes to making the V213 E-Class even more popular.[1]
