Megabox (movie theaters)

Megabox (Hangeul: 메가박스(주)) is a chain of movie theatres in South Korea. Its headquarters are in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul and it was established in 2000 as a subsidiary of Orion Confectionery. It later merged with Cinus, owned by the Joongang Media Network, in 2010.

Megabox is currently owned by a consortium of Australia-based Macquarie Group and Joongang Media Network subsidiary jcontentree. The first Megabox was launched in COEX Mall in Samseong-dong in 2000 and the second two years later in Busan for the international film festival. There are currently 14 branches nationwide.[1]

Cinus

Cinus is a Korean movie theater chain company. It is a joint brand made by combining the existing small theater companies such as Gangnam Central 6 and Bundang Cine Plaza in December, 2004.[2] The existing theaters paid franchise fees for the integrated brand and shared the same brand, and the franchise headquarters started operating in the form of direct marketing integration. On September 18, 2008, it was acquired by ISPlus (Daily Sports), an affiliate of Joongang Ilbo. On June 17,[3] 2011, ISPlus changed its name to Jcontentree.[4] Cinus, who means grape in Latin, had 31 cinemas across the country. Cinus acquired Megabox in 2010 and incorporated it into its affiliate. On May 20, 2011, it merged with Megabox, temporarily using the name Megabox Cinus and then fully integrated in the name of Megabox in the latter half of the year.[5] In 2008, the company was reborn as a Sinus union company in partnership with Dansung Co., but shortly after that, Dansung Company was transferred to Asan M Group on September 23 of the year.

Megabox Cinus

Megabox Cinus (MegaBox Cinus) is a company made by combining Megabox and Sunus. Even after the merger, JC Content is the first major shareholder. As a separate brand, it merged with the Megabox brand on November 1, 2011 and consolidated its website.

Special auditorium

  • M (Gwangju, Daegu, Dongdaemun, Baekseok, Shindae, Sinchon, Yeosu, Kintex, Haeundae): It is a special building with a two-ring street seat and a large silver screen.
  • M2 (Mokdong, Yeongtong, COEX): An upgraded version of the existing M-tube. It is a special building focused on Maximizing 3S (Sound, Screen, Seat) which is the essence of the movie theater. It has Mayer speaker, Dolby ATMOS sound system, Dual 4K projection projection system, It is a special building installed.
  • MX (COEX, Yeongtong, Songdo, Dongdaegu): The upgraded version of the M2 tube is the Belgian Barco's premium 6P laser projector projection system that delivers 56,000 lumens brightness and 4096xw2160 full 4K UHD resolution through six laser sources, Prima Silver Premium Screen, and Meyer Sound EXP (US) and Dolby ATMOS (US).
  • PREMIUM (Daejeon, Shindae, Cheonan, COEX) : A seat with two arm rests, Mayer speaker / JBL High power speaker, Premium theater with personal table.
  • TABLE M (Gwangju, Gimpo, Daegu, Deokcheon, Mokdong, Baekseok, Sokcho, Jeonju, Kintex, Paju Geumchon, Haeundae): The auditorium is equipped with a table to secure individual space and a seat for both arms.
  • BOUTIQUE M (Bundang, Central, COEX): It is a premium special building that offers comfort with the best facilities and boutique hotel personality.
  • BALCONY M (bundang): It is located at a higher level than other seats, such as the balcony seats of the Opera House, and is a special view.
  • The FIRST CLUB (KINTEX): Special cinema with bed-type seating and VIP lounge
  • DRIVE M (Yongin): It is an open-air car theater with a special barbecue.
  • OPEN M (Baekseok, One mount): Urban camping cinema This is a special building installed on the outdoor rooftop.
  • MEGA KIDS BOX (Yeongtong): It is a special movie theater dedicated to children and has a high-definition screen for watching movies in bright surroundings.
