Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center
The defunct Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center (MHMC) was a for-profit hospital, located at 55 Meadowlands Parkway in Secaucus, New Jersey. MHMC was closed on December 31, 2017 and the physical space was purchased by Yan Moshe on 1/1/2018. A new unaffiliated hospital, Hudson Regional Hospital, started under new ownership, new management and a new vision.
History
Established in 1976 as a non-profit, it was purchased in December 2010 while near bankruptcy by MHA LLC, owned and operated by Richard Lipsky (a former anesthesiologist), Tamara Dunaev, Pavel Pogodin, and Anastasia Burlyuk.[1][2]
On December 19, 2017 the state approved the sale of the hospital to Yan Moshe for $12.2 million. Moshe is real-estate developer who owns a surgical center in Hackensack. The new owner must continue to operate it as a general hospital.[3]
Criticism
According to a study conducted by National Nurses United and released in January 2014, Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center is the most expensive hospital in the nation based hospital claims in 2011-12.[4]
The company's financial dealings have been questioned, including possible conflicts of interest with companies owned by its principals, and fines for late employment tax payments and required financial disclosures.[2][1]
The hospital has been accused of false advertising in its "AmeriMama" program that offers birth tourism to pregnant Russians.[5][6][7]
