May Matar is a Lebanese singer, songwriter, composer and director. In 2010, Matar became very well known after the release of her hit single Metlak Mesh A'yzin which had the purpose of defending women's rights. [1]

Personal life

May Matar was born in North Lebanon on October 8, 1987, has a bachelor degree in Cinematography and a masters degree in Film Studies, and she is known among the few artists who writes and composes their own songs.

Matar married former Basketball player George Badawi in September 7, 2013 and gave birth to twins who were both shown in her music video Alba Lal Mama. On May 8, 2017, Matar lost her husband George due to pulmonary embolism. The news made headlines and was a true shocking tragedy. [2] [3]

Career

Matar released her first single El Kawn Zgheer in 2007 and was an award winner from the Belorussian Academy who portrayed her as the most promising rising artist of year 2008. Shortly after the release of her second hit single Eh Garali, the song reached number one in the Lebanese charts and later became part of Melody's top twenty. [4]. Her third single Ma Fi Hada, written by Nizar Francis and composed by Samir Sfeir reached success as well. Matar collaborated with the popular Lebanese songwriter Haitham Zayyad to finalize her fourth hit single Bahebak Aktar.

Throughout her career, Matar worked with many famous directors: Adel Sarhan, Bassem Moghniyye, Ziad Najjar, with famous actors: Majdi Mashmoushi, Wissam Sabbagh, and with famous composers and songwriters like: Nizar Francis, Samir Sfeir, Haytham Zayad and Toni Abi Karam.

Matar wrote and composed a song called Bestahel that was sung by the well known Brigitte Yaghi.

However in 2012, Matar stated that she will retire as an artist but will keep releasing songs independently as a hobby.

In September 2017, May released the song Zekrayat (Memories) dedicated to her late husband George Badawi. [5] [6]

In January 2018, Matar recorded a cover song Ma Wadaatak by the well known Nassif Zaytoun and the song was released as a duet with Lebanese Artist Aline Lahoud. [7]
