Max Price was the vice-chancellor and principal of the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He was installed as vice-chancellor on 19 August 2008, replacing Njabulo Ndebele and maintained this position until 30 June 2018, on completion of his term as vice-chancellor of the university. He is a qualified medical doctor and was previously Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand.

Price has an MBBCh degree from the University of the Witwatersrand which he obtained in 1979; a BA (Hons) PPE (Oxon 1983); an M.Sc in Community Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; and a Diploma in Occupational Health from the University of the Witwatersrand.[1]

A motion of no confidence against him was defeated in 2017, largely attested to what some students deemed to be his poor leadership skills and resistance toward meeting demands of students needs. Controversially, Price is known for remaining steadfast in non-disclosure of university admission policies and has thus been accused of racial prejudice and keeping white dominance and guarding white interests at the University of Cape Town .[2]
