Maud Nelke

Maud Julia Augusta Nelke (1892-1982) was a British socialite and art patron. The daughter of Paul Nelke, a German Jewish stockbroker, she married Gilbert Byng Alwyne Russell[1] and her father helped her husband create Cull & Company. One of their sons was Raymond Russell (organologist).

The couple bought Mottisfont Abbey. Maud was a lover of Ian Fleming.[2] In 1957, she gifted the house and grounds to the National Trust but continued to live at Mottisfont until 1972.[3]
