Matthew Ian Gilbert (born 9 October 1985) is an English rugby union footballer currently playing at Flanker and number eight for Hartpury College R.F.C. in the RFU Championship having previously played for Worcester Warriors in the Aviva Premiership. [1] He is the only deaf professional sportsman in England.[2] In 2012 Mat was fitted with a Phonak hearing device. Since then he has worked as a celebrity ambassador for Phonak, helping to raise awareness of hearing loss.[3]
