Mats Eric Helgesson (born 7 May 1964) is a Swedish Air Force major general. He was appointed Chief of Air Force in October 2015.[1]

Career

Helgesson was born and raised in Gothenburg. He began his military career as a reserve officer at Norrland Dragoon Regiment in Arvidsjaur in the early 1980s.[2] He served as squadron commander at the Skaraborg Air Force Wing (F 7)[3] before being appointed commanding officer of Blekinge Air Force Wing (F 17) in 2009. Helgesson served in this position until 2012 when he was appointed as head of J 0 at the Swedish Joint Force Command's (Insatsstaben) Development Department at the Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters.[4] He was then appointed head of Test and Evaluation (T&E) at the Defence Materiel Administration in 2013.[3] Helgesson was appointed Chief of Air Force and was promoted to major general on 17 September 2015 and took office on 1 October 2015.[5]

Personal life

Helgesson has two children.[2]
