Matheus Pereira da Silva (born 25 February 1998) is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as midfielder for Juventus U23.

Career

Early life

Matheus began playing for Corinthians's academy at the age of eleven. He has been considered one of the club's most promising young players in years.[1]

Corinthians

Matheus was elevated to the professional team in January 2015 for the team's pre-season in Florida, United States. He did not take part in any of the friendly matches, only participating in training sessions.[2] He remained training with the main squad ever since. He was a non-used substitute during several matches, most of them of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. He made his debut in a friendly match against ABC on 22 July 2015 playing the entire game, which was a celebration of ABC's centennial.[3]

Matheus made his official debut on 23 August 2015, as he entered in the second half of Corinthians' 3–0 victory against Cruzeiro at Arena Corinthians.[4] His first official start was against Santos in a Copa do Brasil match on August 26.[5]

Empoli & Juventus

On 28 June 2016, Matheus was signed by Serie A club Empoli F.C..[6] It was reported that Matheus agreed a deal with Juventus in summer 2016. However, as the Turin-based club ran out of non-EU registration quota for international transfer, he would be signed by Empoli from Corinthians first.[7]

On 31 January 2017, Matheus was signed by Serie A club Juventus F.C. on loan.

On 31 August 2017, the last of day of the French and Italian summer transfer windows, he joined Bordeaux on loan from Juventus for the 2017–18 season while Bordeaux secured an option to sign him permanently.[8][9]
