Martin Hoberg Hedegaard (born October 9, 1992), also known simply as Martin, is a Danish singer who rose to fame as the winner of the first Danish series of The X Factor, taking the title at the age of fifteen. He is known for singing in a distinctive nasal tone.
In 2015, he restarted his music career under the name SAVEUS, releasing two singles so far: Levitate Me and Everchanging, the former topping the iTunes charts of Denmark.
Biography
Childhood
Martin was born in the small town of Ørum in central Jutland, Denmark, and spent his entire life there with his mother Gitta, his father Peder, and his two older brothers Anders and Simon. Before participating in The X Factor, he took singing lessons, and had a minor role in a school musical. He cites his influences as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Queen, and Michael Bublé.
The X Factor 2008
Throughout his participation in the first Danish series of The X Factor, Martin was highly praised by the three judges. During the auditions, one of the judges, his future mentor Remee, rose from his chair in order to shake his hand, "before he became a superstar". Later, during the live shows, Martin's transformation into a national idol began after he powerfully performed songs such as "Kiss From a Rose" by Seal, "Rock With You" by Michael Jackson, and "Somebody to Love" by Queen. Internationally, he has been praised by X Factor creator Simon Cowell and Queen themselves. In the grand finale, Martin beat 23-year-old contestant Laura Arensbak Kjærgaard, with whom he had formed a strong friendship.
After X-Factor
After X-Factor, Martin made a Copenhagen-based band SAVEUS. He has also been composing different songs, such as Black Suit, on the album Play (Super Junior album), for one of South Korea's biggest k-pop groups Super Junior.
