Martín León Boneo (28 July 1829 Buenos Aires - 20 September 1915) was an Argentine painter.
Life
In 1845, he began his artistic studies with Juan Camaña at the Federal Republican College. From 1852, he gave drawings in the College of the Seminary, where he began as disciple to Pastor Obligado. Years later, he taught at the University of Buenos Aires.[1]
In 1857, he traveled to Italy to study with Antonio Ciseri. He returned to Buenos Aires in 1864 and in 1865 he moved to Chile.
Boneo recorded images typical of everyday life, still life and religious scenes, and showed a particular interest in the subject of immigration. Linked to the police force as an employee of the institution, he designed the cock that serves as emblem of the Argentine Federal Police. He also painted the coat of arms of the University of Buenos Aires.[2]
