Markus Jürgenson (born 9 September 1987) is an Estonian professional footballer who plays as a right back for Meistriliiga club FCI Levadia and the Estonia national team.
Club career
Tammeka
Jürgenson started playing football in Tartu with Tammeka youth academy. He made his debut in the Meistriliiga on 16 March 2005, in a 2–2 derby home draw against Merkuur.[1]
TVMK
Flora
On 16 November 2008, Jürgenson signed with Flora.[2] He won his first Meistriliiga title in the 2010 season. Jürgenson won his second league title in the 2011 season and his third one in the 2015 season. On 8 November 2016, Flora announced Jürgenson's contract would not be extended for the next season. During his eight seasons with the club, Jürgenson had become a fans' favourite, having won three Meistriliiga titles, four Estonian Cups and five Estonian Supercups, amassing a total of 306 appearances and scoring 56 goals, including 252 appearances and 37 goals in the Meistriliiga.[3]
VPS
On 10 February 2017, Jürgenson signed with Finnish Veikkausliiga club VPS on a one-year contract, with option of another.[4] On 24 May 2017, in a league match against JJK, Jürgenson scored an own goal by botching a lofted pass to his team's goalkeeper Marko Meerits, chipping the ball over him and into his team's net. VPS won the match 4–1.
FCI Levadia
On 19 January 2018, Jürgenson joined Meistriliiga club FCI Levadia on a one-year deal with an option to extend the contract for another year.[5]
International career
Jürgenson started his international youth career in 2006 with the under-21 team. In December 2010, he was named by manager Tarmo Rüütli in the Estonia squad to face China PR and Qatar in friendly matches.[6] Jürgenson made his international debut for Estonia on 18 December 2010, playing full 90 minutes in a 0–3 defeat against China PR.[7]
