Mark Weidemaier (born January 17, 1955) is an American professional baseball scout and coach. He is a former member of the Washington Nationals coaching staff.

Career

Weidemaier served as an assistant coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes baseball team while he attended Ohio State University, getting a master's degree. He was a minor league coach in the Kansas City Royals chain in 1982. From 1984-1987, he worked with the California Angels as a scout and minor league coach. He piloted the Algodoneros de Torreon for part of 1988 (replacing Alfredo Rios) and the 1989 Prince William Cannons (18-23, before being replaced by Stump Merrill).[1] Weidemeier was in player development for the New York Yankees in 1989-1990.

From 1991-1995, he was a Cleveland Indians scout in the eastern United States and Latin America. From 1996-1998, he was an advance scout for the Chicago White Sox. He was advance scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1999-2006, was special assignment scout from 2007-2008, then was advance scout again as well as special assistant to the general manager in 2009-2010.[2][3]

Weidemaier worked as an advance scout with the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2011 through 2013. After the 2013 season, Diamondbacks coach Matt Williams was named manager of the Washington Nationals, Weidemaier joined the Nationals on Williams' staff as the team's defensive positioning coach.[4][5] Following the 2015 season, the Nationals fired Williams and the entire coaching staff.[6]
