Mark R. Maynard is a Republican member of the West Virginia Senate, representing the 6th District since January 14, 2015.[1]

He is the owner of Maynard’s Autoworld, a pre-owned automotive dealership and an automotive roadside assistance business in Wayne County West Virginia. Senator Maynard was involved in many aspects of his business even as a child. It is now a forth generation family business that started near the beginning of the 20th century with his business savy great grandmother, Polly Queen Maynard. Polly had a grocery store, continued by her son Richard, then her grandson, Senator Maynard’s father, Richard Dale Maynard, who added the automotive portion to the family business. Senator Maynard was born into this business, and enjoys managing the day to day tasks, as well as actually performing any task that needs his attention. Senator Maynards hobbies have always been automotive related, with his greatest accomplishment being an NHRA professional drag racing pit crew member. He served on Jim Head’s nitro funnycar team from May of 2006 until 2012, serving as cylinder head technician and bottom end replacement technician. In the fall of 2014 he was approached by John Bojec to offer his assistance on a brand new funnycar team 3 race deal that consisted of Maple Grove, Las Vegas, and The Pomona World Finals in Southern California. Senator Maynard was torn due to his involvement in his campaign, but helped John successfully operate his 8000 horsepower nitro funnycar in his first attempt at the top tier of the sport of professional drag racing. Maynard flew the redeye home the day before the 2014 General election from Vegas, to get one last day of campaigning before election day. Today, Maynard longs to help NHRA teams, but time doesn’t permit with his commitment to the people of the 6th district. Senator Maynard grew up in a politically involved family, his Grandfather Richard was heavily involved in campaigns and ran for Wayne county sheriff in 1960, losing by only 17 votes. Senator Maynard’s Uncle, Buster and Aunt Barbara were also involved, holding state positions with the GOP party. His Mother, Jewell Gay Maynard was probably his biggest influence in politics. Jewell was involved regularly with the Wayne County Republican executive committee, And after Senator Maynard attended meetings, he became chairman of the executive committee in 2004, also serving as Wayne GOP ballot commissioner until 2016. After unsuccessfully running for the Senate in 2008 he was approached in early 2014 by then West Virginia GOP chairman Conrad Lucas and encouraged to run against a 32 year incumbent Senator who had only had one other Republican challenger in the longest held senate seat in the history of WV at the time. Senator Maynard has taken his interest in ORV(off-road vehicles) and applied it to legislation that will benefit WV and benefit the economy. He is a very conservative WV legislative member and is a champion for Chistian Values, stands up for 2nd amendment rights and fights for pro-life legislation. A virtually unknown fact about Senator Maynard is his guitar and vocal performances, doing covers of his favorite country performers from the 70’s and 80’s which include Hank Williams jr., Waylon Jennings and David Allan Coe WV[2] During the 2016 U.S. presidential election, Maynard co-chaired Donald Trump's presidential campaign in West Virginia and also was on the ballot in the 2016 primary for 3rd congressional district delegate to the Republican National Convention held in Cleveland, OH. Maynard was among the top three votegetters on the ballot which confirmed his seat and voting privilege at the 2016 convention. [3].
