Marie van der Zyl

Marie Sarah van der Zyl (born November 1965) is President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, and only the second woman in the role.[1] An employment lawyer,[2] she took office as President on 1 June 2018, succeeding Jonathan Arkush, who did not seek re-election.[3][4]

She grew up in Woodford, London, the daughter of Barry Kaye and his wife Szusanne,[5] and has a law degree from Liverpool Polytechnic (now Liverpool John Moores University).[2]

Van der Zyl is an associate member of Mill Hill United Synagogue and is a member of the management board of West London Synagogue.[6]

She lives in Mill Hill, London.[7] Her husband Darell is a member of West London Synagogue; the couple have two daughters.[5] She is the daughter-in-law of voice actress Nikki van der Zyl whose own father was the former West London Synagogue rabbi Werner van der Zyl.
