Marie-Thérèse Bardet (2 June 1898 – 8 June 2012) was a French supercentenarian. She was recognized as the oldest person in Europe, and the sixth oldest person in the world,[lower-alpha 1] at the time of her death in 2012.[2][3][4]

Biography

Bardet was born in Lorient, Brittany, to single mother who gave up her daughter to French authorities.[3][4] On 1 January 2012, Marcelle Narbonne died, and Bardet became the oldest living person in France and Europe.[5]

Bardet died at a retirement home in Pontchateau, Loire-Atlantique, France, on 8 June 2012, just 6 days after celebrating her 114th birthday.[2] She was survived by her two children, who were ages 90 and 88 years old, respectively, in 2012; 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.[3][4]

Bardet was succeeded as oldest living European by 113-year-old Maria Redaelli-Granoli.[6]
