Margarita Brender Rubira was born in 1919 in Romania. She studied architecture in the Barcelona School of Architecture.[1]

In 1962 she was the only woman collegiate in the COAC (Architects' Association of Catalonia) and for many years she was the only one who practiced the profession in the province of Barcelona.[2]

Life

Her cosmopolitan character and her cultural and vital background led her to defend an innovator style of architecture, according to which the design of the spaces improves in a qualitative way the life of the people that inhabit them. In an interview to La Prensa newspaper (6 November 1962), she pointed out the influence of the Mediterranean architecture in her projects and spoke about her interest in a harmonic architecture that began to plan the urbanism and that kept its coherence, until foreseeing a decoration in accordance with the characteristics of the users.

Integration between architecture and nature was really important for Margarita Brenden through her professional career. She thought that every room should allow seeing the sky. The limitations of the urban policies at that time used to upset her, as they did not allow the spaciousness she considered fair, timely and necessary.

Following her theoretical and practical line, she was responsible for the construction of a residential project of 346 homes in Badalona, in 1966. She is also the architect of a luxury residential complex in Prat de Llobregat.[3]

She died 11 February 2000.
